Transmission Disposal

Any thoughts on where I could get rid of a slightly used transmission? I'm pretty sure at the curb on metal recycling day won't work out so well ...

I figure somebody must take these for nothing given the amount of metal in it.

If you can haul it to the one of the places that does car recycling, they might pay you for it, no?

Take it to Cohen's (http://www.cohenandcohen.calls.net/). They'll probably give you $20 for it.

We get rid of all our broken or unwanted racecar parts at Cohens. I'm collecting a pile of crap, old heads, shocks, springs, right now and will probably have enough metal to make a run worthwhile. I usually try to fill the bed of my pickup full to make it worth the trip. Otherwise for just a transmission they may give you a buck or two for it. If you go so far as to seperate the aluminum from the steel then you can recycle the aluminum and get more for it.

I like the Cohen idea ... close to work too. Now that I think of it, I can use the opportunity to thin out my rotor collection at the same time Not too worried about what they pay me, just want the junk gone.

Yup. Really easy. Drive up, scale, drive to where the dude is, back up, unload, scale out and then go to the 'ATM' for your cash if the dude doesn't pay you out. Typically the ATM is just for bigger bills. It's normally pretty quick.
