That explains it schmoo, once I get the lugs all changed I'm going to have to be extra paranoid about shops. Eyemaster, that sounds like a pretty good reason to use an impact instead of a drill. I tried the 14v mastercraft last night, it was able to crack the lug at full charge but it also took a few seconds. Kind of pathetic but zipped right off once it got started.

Toyota wants $7 for a SINGLE lug and doesn't offer a set so I won't be buying them there! I'm not surprised at the stealership price but that's $140+tax for a set of crap lug nuts!!! Yet another reason to install aftermarket rims!

YMMV. I use the #8 position on the clutch of my $19 cordless drill that I bought 4 years ago with zero issues.

I do the same. Though the couple times I've forgotten, I did more damage to my wrist than the drill.

Ordered the big Milwaukee bare tool, one Li-Ion battery and the charger individually today. $279 taxes in. For some reason buying individual components works out to be cheaper than the kit, even if buying 2 batteries. Great success.

I just bought the 1/2" milwakee too. Was fed up of chasing batteries for my 14.4. love the tool. hate the batteries. So the milwakee was a winner for me.

I was assembling my suspension the other day and I tightened the 2 bolts to the clevis. they are rated at 160 ft/lbs. After hitting it with the Milwakee, I attempted to torque them with a hand wrench. I heard the click, but no movement on the bolt. That thing is POWERFULL!

Really happy with the purchase

my princess auto 18v impact has lasted 5 years now, still going strong. In fact, it was charged in the fall, left out in the garage all winter and still has power to crack and tighten 8 wheels without recharging... probably won't recharge it till mid summer either. :D

I just use a 1/2" ratchet, then torque wrench. I have a wired impact for around the house (13A, its a real beast) but I'm too lazy to get it out just for taking wheel lugs off; I suppose I only have 4 per wheel though.

What do you guys torque wheels to?

Torque to what your car manual tells you to. Should be in there somewhere. Sometimes its hard to find, but its in there. Usually in the section that tells you how to replace your tire if you have a flat.

I just picked up the 20v Dewalt drill and impact kit.....Its stunning, so small and compact, and cracked the lugs off my truck in a second, plus I put up all my strapping in the garage 18x26 on one battery. Love it.

If you need lugnuts, I should have them in stock, or could have them in a day or two

What you need is:
- breaker bar
- one of these

and a torque wrench.
*practically* Unbreakable, no batteries of recharging to worry about and garranteed for Life :)
Wha't d'ya mean you "Can't get there from here!"

Those are pretty cool. But battery powered toys are fun.

Yup I used it to remove a hub nut on the rust-bucket Metro, no problem. As for how many tire changes... I think I might have charged it once all autocross season? Just the tire changes. Lasts a good long while anyway, has an LED indicator so you can check.

By the way my father in law was so impressed he went and bought one the day after he saw mine lol... it was on sale.

Sweeet, just ordered battery and charger from amazon.

Now to wait for Homedepot to bring out a deal on the bare tool ;)

Thanks! :chug:

DeWalt = FREE when I bought another drill at Ottawa Fasteners. Very small, and uses the same battery as the drill. I think it was less than $100 for the two of them. Batteries don't last forever on the DeWalts.
