Helmets for 2011

Postby 123go » Wed Feb 16, 2011 9:48 pm

Since ASN Canada has released a notice last fall saying that the Snell 2000 helmets will be accepted until 2015 in solosports, has MCO adopted this as their policy?

Thanks,

Gilles

I'm not sure if the ASN thing was discussed at the year end regional workshop
(so this info may/maynot be 100% but, it's what I'm aware of)

we follow the Ontario Regional Rule book and the 2011 hasn't been released to the public

but this is available from 2010

For solo II

sec 3.4 (page 9)

For solo I/TIME ATTACK
Sec 1.5 (page 7)
http://www.casc.on.ca/uploadedFiles/201 ... 161600.pdf

i believe this is what Gilles is referring to (slalom, solosprint/time attack, lapping and drifting)

That section about needing an SA helmet if you are classified as "modified" is an interesting one. Is that new? I don't qualify, but some people in the club do (when I look at who was in Dmod at last year's Nationals), even though they don't necessarily have a cage.

Ontario Regionals and Canadian Nationals do not use the same rules.

From the 2010 Ontario Regional rule book

3.4 Helmets (page 8-9)

Helmets must be worn in all autoslalom events except slow speed school driving exercises.
Helmets may be open-faced or closed-face. They must be in good condition, inside and outside, and never been subjected to a crash or other severe impact.

A Snell 2000M or newer M-rated helmet is acceptable, provided the car is not equipped with a roll cage or racing slicks. Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are also approved.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2000 SA or 2005 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A or 31.2A
British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 type A/FR

The driver of a vehicle equipped with a roll cage or where the vehicle is classified as Modified requires a helmet which meets one of the FIA, Snell SA, SFI or BSI standards listed above.
Participants are advised that helmets meeting Snell standards will be accepted up until:
2000M, SA Until 2011 2005M, SA Until 2016

ASN national rule book 2010
4.5. Helmets (page 14)

4.5.1 Helmets meeting the following FIA standards are approved for use in AutoSlalom.

FIA 8860-2004
Snell 2000 SA or 2005 SA
SFI Foundation 31.1A, 31.2A or 31.1/2005
British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 type A/FR (expires Dec 31, 2013)
Snell 2000 M or 2005 M rated helmets are not acceptable for vehicles described in
section 2.4.1

4.5.2 The driver of a vehicle equipped with a roll cage, racing slicks or where the vehicle is
classified as Modified requires a helmet which meets one of the FIA, Snell SA, SFI or
BSI standards listed above.

4.5.3 Helmets may be either open faced or closed face. They must be in good condition both
inside and outside and never subjected to a crash or other severe impact.

Part of the reason for confusion was that for regional road racing, the SA'00 was extended temporarily as the SA'10 designation was held up and there were therefore no SA'10 were available to purchase.

Now that there are plenty of SA '10's available, the SA'00 will be considered expired.

As to how that translates to other disciplines will come out when the 2011 rules are announced.

the 2011 solo II Regional rule book hasn't been published yet...

Hmm - something that has occurred to me - when they say ROLL CAGE - do they mean full cage? or a bar?

I'd assume they mean a full cage - but better to check...

roll CAGE and BAR are not viewed the same in the 2010 Regional rule book

eg. SA helmet is required for MOD or a CAGED car
