Hey guys,

I was at SportChek picking up some new shoes when I spotted these:

I needed something more practical, but they seem pretty neat!

Ah... 5 finger shoes. They're popular with running training I believe. More natural than regular sole shoes.

They are used for barefoot running. They will teach you to run properly, or naturally as opposed to the way regular running shoe manufacturers want you to run, heel toe...which is backwards to normal human gait. I had a pair. They have quite a high break-in period to get used to as they will engage your muscles in a different manner. They will make you a stronger runner though.

I'm actually looking to buy some new driving shoes. I'm between a pair of these and a pair of Puma faux-driving shoes.

Does anybody drive their cars in the Vibrams (sp?)?

No, like I said, I needed something more practical. However, I did end up getting a pair of Puma faux-driving shoes. More specifically the Drift Cat IV.

They are only reasonably comfortable for regular daily use, but are great for driving. They have really thin support so you're feel of the pedals is significantly better than the shoes I'm used to. Cost is $100.

Based on my experience this past weekend, I would suggest them.

Did you buy them just to drive, or for other stuff? Real driving shoes that are fire rated are the same price (well starting anyways).

But you don't want to be running around in them.

That's what I thought too, but they are actually not that bad... and they do stretch.

I bought these as dual purpose (daily use/driving), as my old Converse finally croaked.

I bought some Nike Wrestling shoes for wrestling and Jeet Kune Do. Next time around, I'll be using those. They were only $60 at Foot locker.

I don't mind buying shoes for driving only. Being able to use them for other stuff was a bonus. I assumed that I'd be looking at around $200 for a pair of real driving shoes/boots.

Do you have any suggestions for real driving shoes then? And where to get them?

I know nothing about racing shoes but have seen these on the Perry website:

Oakley's

AlpineStars

I have also seen Sparco shoes somewhere too.
