Wow - killer price.

Anyone know anything about these tires?

I'm currently running Toyo T1-R's as my streets and they're about dead.

These tires are like the Falken Azenis but better in the wet, I suspect better in dry too. They are a good track / daily tire.

I use these as my summer tires on the BMW. Fantastic tire in my opinion. Best I've ever had on any car in the summer.

Ralph had my car for a couple of days and his words were something like "Oh my god the grip is amazing, I could have taken that offramp at 200 or something" :D

Call Dave Parker at Parker autocare he set me up with mine for very little money, around $60 per tire less than his regular price last summer when Bridgestone offered him a deal. He can likely still get that deal.

Be aware the Bridgestone is bringing out a new version this year, which is likely why there is a blowout sale on them.

New version of the RE-01R? Really? It just came out 2 years ago. I tested these at Mosport with the formula cars it was amazing the grip!

Lol, these things blow the Falkens out of the water...

But 195/50 is a weak ass size, way too small.

It's already out in Japan, called the RE-11, IIRC.

Probably a small bump up in technology. The RE-01R from what I understood from Bridgestone was a major development for them.

I hope they come with a new tire and invite me to drive the formula cars again.

We seem to be a couple of years behind the tires available in the JDM. At least that's my impression. The Azenis RT-615 and BS RE-01R were out in Japan for a year or two before they hit NA.

Some guys have had luck getting Tire Rack to order sizes they're out of stock in. TR apparently just isn't keeping inventory. Can always call TR and see if they can get your size.

TR is taking preorders too. If you google it you can find size/price lists.

Thanks for the great tip piston. Great pricing - I just ordered two sets. :D
I assume they're along the lines of the surprisingly competent RE050s that came with our Mazdspeed3.
I'm hoping these will be the same. The fact that they are good for autox is a bonus.

The Tire Rack rep * expects * they'll sell out of this Bridgestone closeout by the end of the day - of course, that's probably just a salesman trying to talk a VISA out of its hiding place. ;)

How much is shipping for a set of these? I'm debating whether I want to look for a local dealer who would match the price, or get these and deal with shipping

Don't worry if you miss out. When you count the exchange rate ( close to 25% these days when buying US$), shipping (in the 120 US$ neighberhood) and the mounting, you won't be saving that much. I was looking at 225/50/16s and even at those slashed prices, Isee a saving of only about 50$ for the set, installed, compared to what I would get from Talon. I prefer to encourage our sponsors...Mind you I'm in Montreal, so I don't know how much delivery to Ottawa adds to the bill, so I may be out in the field...My 2 cents.

See y'all, I just can't wait for the season to start!

Only 50$? The ones you are looking at (the same I'm looking at) are ~550CAD with shipping - according to your quote - so a little more then 600$ installed (no idea if shipping would include taxes/brokerage/whatever since I've never shipped tires and don't know the courier used).
The ones at Talon are almost 800$, plus taxes, plus shipping (would probably be cheaper for me to drive over there at some point), plus installation. That's nearly a grand...am I missing something?

The quote is not 550$ can, it's 554 US$. At 25% exchange that's 692 can$ plus installation about 80$ That's 772$.

Talon's price is 194$ each, 776$ for the set plus taxes (in your case GST only since you're in Ontario so 815$) I don't know about shipping...Add 80$ for installation if you have them shipped and you have a total of 895$. So OK that's 123$ off. If I get them here in Montreal, price installed probably 200$ each or 800$ for the set, plus taxes, about 900$... (And that's not counting the rebate coupons Talon gave at the events...) So I was optimistic, I forgot the taxes in my calculation

I can't believe it, only $88 for my size. Too bad our dollar tanked, though still a good deal - with shipping and duty about $640 cdn. Too bad I don't need streets this year.

I'll be using my TalonTire coupon though on something special

Good call on the PST not being charged...
But it is in fact: (77*4+120)[USD] * 1.25 = 535CAD...so ~600 installed, plus whatever taxes/brokerage would be charged when crossing the border.

I checked again but with a Kanata postal code and it's 512.51 US$, because Tire Rack gives you the price delivered at your door, including shipping, GST, PST, brokerage fees and customs. (shipping was 20$ less than Montreal and you don't have a used tire recuperation tax of 20$, hence the difference from my 554 US$) So you'd be saving 150$ for the set. Unfortunately there are none left in that size...

If you can't get them this time around from Tire Rack, check Talon in March, they usually have good specials on competition tires (and I would expect these or other similar to be included in this category) worth looking for.

Good luck,

Gilles

Thanks for the reply (and legwork in finding out how much they would cost), as well as the tip about future sales from Talon!!

However this does seem like a time where shipping to Ogdensburg could be worth it seeing as it would only be 50$ in shipping, no brokerage, and however much they decide to charge you in taxes at the border. Worst case scenario is ~600$...assuming we can get our hands on the next shipment at the same price.

No problem. You see it even forced me to do the proper math.

And to be honest, not only do I prefer to encourage our sponsors, but I can't see myself coming in to Talon or my friendly corner station with brand spanking new tires that I haven't bought from them just to get them mounted. Humm, not sure that I would continue to get the same kind of friendly , go-out-of-my-way-to-help-you-when-you-need-me-the-most kind of service I have been experiencing from these guys after that.

I am 110% for shopping locally and supporting our club sponsors, especially Talon Tire: *when* it makes sense.
In this case, the substantial difference in pricing made it a no-brainer to step to the Tire Rack dark side.

To use the Mazdaspeed tires for example:

225/45/18 at Tire Rack
$78 x 4 = 312 USD in tires
52.32 USD shipping to Ogdensbury UPS Store
$10 USD for UPS store to hold them
Sub = 454.31 CAD as of today
$47.36 CAD GST + PST at border
$15 gas CAD for the trip to and from Ogdensburg
TOTAL = 516.67 or 129.17 per tire

225/45/18 at Talon
$297 x 4 = 1188 CAD in tires
$40? CAD estimated shipping from Montreal to Kanata (not sure)
$59.40 GST
TOTAL = 1287.40 CAD or 321.85 per tire

From a straight cost to your door only POV, no comparison.

Using MCO coupons or win contingency money (if you have it - I don't) would make the gap smaller.
If Bridgestone Canada forwards the clearout deal on the RE01R to Talon too this will make it better still - I hope they do.
And by going Tire Rack you give up the first rate treatment MCOers rave about at Talon: long and short term customer service, racing knowledge, installation, dealing with warranty / replacement and repair issues.
Should Rs be in the budget this year, I am definitely giving Howard a call - got to make those MINI S boys earn it this year.

My 2 cents - YMMV

FWIW, I just got off the phone w/ Speedstar in T.O. to get revised pricing on the RE-01Rs... They will look into it - I'm sure all the vendors will be looking into it. Worth giving the local vendors a crack at it.

Hey Kevin, I agree that in your size that's hard to pass, at 1/3 the regular price. In the size we were looking for there is less difference, although still something, especially when you need two sets like you did.

Humm, so you think you'll still be in the same class as the MINIs eh? :o
