Oh yeah, I forgot the most important thing:

Always double or triple check that your hood pins are in place before you take your car out for a test drive the night before a lapping weekend :nono:

And you can now add - Make sure trunk is closed before opening the garage door with the car on the lift ;)

1. When the car's not running quite right - ask the spouse if anything strange has happened lately, such as a missed shift.
2. When I miss a shift - the car breaks.
3. 2 more days of unlimited lapping and a broken car makes me sad.
4. Power oversteer in 14 in an R8 is awesome.
5. Power oversteer in 14 in an R8 with the nanny turned off is awesome +35%.
6. Rob Switzer still doesn't know my name.
7. JDM Miata motors are stupid cheap in Toronto.
8. Our club is the best.

After I boo-boo'ed the car with a missed shift, half a dozen guys came up and told me stories of doing the same thing and not to worry about it. Steve Greiner rescued my car from 12a when it couldn't be towed in. He and at least 6 other people came up to me and offered to trailer my car home Friday Night. Bruce Jackson towed home my tire trailer so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Everyone offered condolences for the dead motor. Then laughed at me.

Aside from breaking the car - great weekend. Now I just have to harass John to get the engine by the 16th so I can go to Picton.

That guy doesn't know anything

I thought the new treasurer was that helpful woman I met at registration? That's who I don't know.

Big thanks to JP, too, for his work at the event. And kudos for modelling class even after the distressing damage to your new car. Do you have an engine? Do you want to host an engine swap party? Miatas are pretty easy.

And, Laura is good and hooked now. She was also taking part in the fire training & safety course given for the marshals. I'm hoping to see her out at our next Open Road Rally -- might as well put those maths skills to good use for some lucky driver!

Rob:

During the drive over - the engine was using a little more oil than I really wanted. I'd been expecting a refresh might be necessary in the future - just not THIS close.

It really wasn't running 100% right all day Thurs or Fri. I'd assumed it was just getting used to different conditions. Turns out Jamie missed a shift on Wed night and probably stretched a rod or something, giving me more compression in #4, hence the pinging. I finished the engine off Friday.

Engine swap party sounds good. However I really don't have time with work right now.

The car is safely tucked in a friends garage with (one more of)his project Cutlass('s) in the driveway under a tarp.

Tiger JDM in Toronto has Jap-spec engine and tranny for $650. I'm going to drive down and get it Thursday most likely, then dog-leg through Peterborough to pick up a 400 for the Cutlass.

John Arthur (Mini-Nigel) will do the swap for me next week. Again - should be simple, but I really don't have time to do it.

With some luck - I'll be able to make it to your event on the 16th (if it doesn't catch fire or blow up - again).

$650 is a fair price for an engine and transmission. I paid more for a 1.8 engine alone four years ago.

We'll look forward to seeing it return for the 16th -- I'm glad you have a plan to get back on the horse.

Yeah, sorry about that Chris. At least you didn't throw up in the car. :puke:

Good times... good times....

It would have been OK, I wear a full face helmet, any outflow would have landed on me. If it had been a 30 minute session I might have confirmed that theory.

Now I know what my navigators feel like on twisty sections of a nav. rally! At least I didn't have to give you directions round the track.

Wouldn't have missed it for anything...Thanks again.
