Welder Required

Postby JohnyH » Thu Apr 09, 2009 11:27 am

I need two plates welded to the frame of my 1988 Convertible Corvette to bolt in the Roll Bar! I will have the car ready so I just need to have the welding done! I have a large 220V stick welder but I'm not experienced enough to do a good job and make it look nice!

Can someone help out? I could take it someplace to have the job done, any recommendations?

Thanks John

One question, when I bring the car in to have the plates welded to the frame should I disconnect the battery to protect car and the electronics in the car? :chug:

Thanks again John

Yeah, definitely disconnect the battery. Also, it will make life easier if you have the area prepped before you go to the shop. Should be clean, bare metal within an inch or two of the mounting plate location.

i am a welder on a fuel injected car/diesel, the bat should always be dissconnected, due to the short circuit transfer(gmaw) you can and trust me i have learned this the hard way, fry the on board computer. Now i think car quest or napa sell surge protectors that simply clamp on to the battery and re-route any interference thou it, we use them at work and they work quite well. If you need any welding done i can help, just throw me a pm. I do alot of overtime on weekends and whatnot, so my boss gave me a key to the shop. So i have full access and he doesn't mind.
just another poorboy...
