Roll Bar

Postby dbg » Mon Apr 16, 2012 10:26 pm

I'm working on getting the S2000 ready for the track.

One of the guys suggested a hard dog rollbar http://www.bethania-garage.com/s2000.htm

I gather I need the diagonal bar (removable or welded).

Does this (a) meet the rules and (b) sounds like a good deal? Any comments on welded versus removable diagonal?

Is there a better alternative?

TIA,

Not sure if the removable meets the rules but the welded does, this is the same bar I have.

the bar complies with SCCA and CASC lapping guidlines with either the welded or removable diagonal

I'm not sure what the advantage of the bolt in diagonal is, I guess better access to the storage box? Not, like you are going to unbolt that thing to put stuff in there.

I have the one with the removable diagonal and it makes install a lot easier. Also you can still access the center console with it in place you just can't open the top compartment all the way. This will meet all of the criteria you will need to do lapping and advanced driving schools. I had mine checked out at the BMW evenst, who are usually the most stringent on rules and it was fine. The main thing you need to worry about is head clearance between the top of your helmet to the top of the roll bar (needs to be approx 2"). If you are tall you will need to lower your seat. I am 5' 8 and pass with no issues. All of the other specs meet SCCA/CASC as Dave mentioned.

I'm 5'10", but with a tall torso. Can you tell me how much higher it is than the stock rollbar?

it just fits under the soft top

a slight modification to the stock seat will also lower your arse another inch or two

with the harness bar (you don't need it with the stock seatbelt) you also loose recline room, and you can see by the pics
how the passenger looses some recline room as well

depending if you want to KEEP the stock trim, you can consider the different options

some want to put the stock trim back in, others leave it all out

Dave, do you have a link to the mod for dropping the seat?

I wouldn't try dropping the seat that way, unless you're mechanically inclined. I requires some foam cutting and accurate pounding of the seat pan. Unless you're good at realigning the holes to the seat rail after bashing in the seat base.... Of course I wouldn't know anything about that with my car

Thanks, Dave.

I like what that Welsh guy did to section the seat base. I'll probably do that.
