Ok getting real geeky here, but lets see your race setup.

I need a bigger desk.

Antec Sonata case... can't miss it. I need to find myself a nice desktop mounted USB hub, rather than leaving the cabinet to my computer open all the time. That's the whole point of having it built in to the cabinets, no?

I like open access, but then I have a whack of USB ports in the back of the PC. Only thing I use up front is the audio jacks when I run my headphones.

Also air flow is important.

Air flow isn't a worry. The rear of the cabinet is open and vented. My case has 3 fans in it.

I just want to clean up the clutter a little. As you can tell - my desk it rather neat and I consider it cluttered right now the way it is. I like to have all the cables nice and neat. So something for the USB accessibility for when I plug/unplug devices so I don't always have to run with an open cabinet would be nice. I have a bunch of other USB stuff but haven't bothered setting it up. I have a USB dock for my phatbox, a usb cradle for my palm, etc. etc... so I'm looking for something nice to control the insanity once I wire it all up.

This is the only thing I can come up with:

That would do it, I just use the PC to run my sims, the mac has a USB hub to connect the printer, palm, P&S camera, audio device, wireless key & mouse. USB 2 for the CF card reader, front port shares the ipod and usb key...

A USB 2 hub would fix all of that, but I just ordered a Netgear Gigabit switch. So it will have wait.

Yeah, frickin' wires!
My desk is a disaster zone of wires for:
digital camera
web camera
ipod
cordless keyboard & mouse
external hd
printer
and that's just the USB stuff!

It's a mess, Rob would likely have a seizure if he went from his clean set up to mine. I also though the other day that life might be easier if I bought a USB hub because neither of my USB port locations are particularly convenient.

the gig-e switch is in the basement, the network printer 2m to the right of my workstation has the card reader. The trades that needed to fix stuff in the den/office have finally done their work, so I can now settle down and finish my office setup. Though I do need some new cables that are a bit longer to go under the desk back to the corner of the room and through the hole in the desk. That is the only disadvantage of a built-in desk is that you need the cabling solution to be perfect. As least all the networking is figured out and neat. It's just the individual workstation spaghetti messes that get to annoy me now.

I'm eyeing a new desk from Ikea or I'll buy a nice desk surface and bolt it to the wall. The run looms on all my wires. 90% of time nothing moves from the den anyhow. But right now its very uncomfortable to type on the desk.

Here is the server's home :)

http://temp.justdrive.ca/server/images/IMG_1628.jpg
The DSL modem, Asante Switch all took a zap last summer, APS shelled out some coin, I got a modem free from a friend and have been running off my old 10base T backup, but its time for a new switch.

http://www.netgear.com/Products/Switches/DesktopSwitches/GS108.aspx

This one will bearly do the job.

1. G5
2. Gaming PC
3. XBOX
4. Server
5. GTL Host
6. Wireless
7. iMac
8. Garage

Yep Geek, when I bought the house, I ran a ton of Cat 5 everywhere before the walls when up.

But wireless helps too.

This is a historical shot:

For those that don't recognize them, the two red-rimmed wheels are the original Logi cable-driven force feedback type. The steering shaft bushings suffered enough wear from GPL sessions that they got sloppy, and they were demoted to support system use.

This is a historical view since unfortunately the third system was borrowed from my old office, I had to return it when I switched jobs. On the plus side, the main system in the lower right now sports a 24" panel and a G25. And the video ram stat shown is now inaccurate. I'm building a new box eventually so hopefully I'll be back at three stations. Although the far left one is pretty old & slow.

Very sharp on the basement gear! I'll have to run downstairs and take a shot of the rack and the cable box on the wall. I have every room in the house wired for CAT5e. Every TV has to cable runs so that I can backhaul. Every TV has a CAT5e jack as well. I have a couple GigE switches (DGS-1008D). Only one hooked up right now. At least I don't have half the toys to hook up so I still have a few free ports. All my phones are also running on cat5e too, so I can always switch a phone outlet back in to ethernet too if it isn't needed as a phone.

I will have to part with my server rack this fall.

I'm going to finish the unfinished basement area so the kid will have a play room. The rack just takes too much space. So I'll build a nice enclosed closet.

http://www.justdrive.ca/theatre/gallery/02-14-05/index.html

Wired the den up in 05, actually surfing from the sofa.

The cable-driven red LWFF is still my weapon of choice, I've got three of them at home (two for parts). Wheel is mod'ed with a ball-bearing kit to remove the steering shaft slopiness.
Pedals have long been replaced with TSW2 w/clutch.
Lightning SST H-shifter.
TrackIR4 head-tracking system.
Nostromo Speedpad N50 for programmable buttons.

I'll try to post a pic soon. [burnout]

I'm still in the process of acquiring parts to build myself a pedal set with a pressure-sensitive brake pedal, using a 30kg load cell instead of a pot.

I was tempted to try one of those ball-bearing conversions, assuming I could have managed to get the cable wound back onto the drum properly. But not long after the second one got too sloppy, Logi released the original Momo wheel so I went that route intead.

Your pedal project sounds intriguing, keep us updated!

Here is my setup. Yes I'm running GTL on a Mac using bootcamp to run windows. I beat myself with a baseball bat when I installed windows xp...lol. 23" Apple Cinema Display w/a 2.16GHZ Intel Macbook Pro w/2GB ram. Cockpit was bought in China when I was there on business a couple of years ago.

cheers

Performs just fine. Of course runs at a higher framerate when runnin in 1440x900 on the laptop screen. Haven't really checked the frame rates between the two screens yet.

Oh I live with myself just fine.

At work, I manage 20 PowerBooks & MBPro's
3 G5 2.5's and 2 MPro's, 3 Xserves and a 45TB XSAN.

;) Lots of Mac love, just built a PC to play games.
My mac makes me money. The PC saves me money, for now.

Here's my setup...a little slower PC but I'm running thru a lo-rez projector (800x600) to get a 86" diagonal image. It's quite immersive...

The controller is Act Labs with shifter and performance pedals.
