Winter Tire Storage

This is the first winter where I"m going to actually have to store tires and the research I've done so far all point to sealing the tires up in heavy duty plastic and storing them in a cool dry place, like a basement.

Problem is, I don't have enough room in my basement to store 2 sets of tires (1 summer for AutoX, 1 all season for daily driving). Does anyone have any thoughts/tips/etc. for storing a set of all seasons in the garage for an Ottawa winter? They'll be up off the concrete on a pallet or a rack and at the very back of the garage.

And the same question for storing winters in the garage for the summer....

I usually store all my tires in the garage, including my race tires. They have never been damaged because of it. They may not have been uber 'fast' the next year, but never have had an issue. If you do store race tires where it does go below 0C, then make sure that you do not touch them until they have thawed. Otherwise you have a good chance of cracking the rubber.

If anyone is looking for tire storage options, but doesn't have the space at home, I just discovered that Kanata Self Storage will store a set for the winter for $75 (plus tax, I think).

I am not sure if this is a good deal or if it is a heated space, but I thought I would pass it along. They also have car storage options (heated and unheated) as well.

That's what I need. I have the vertical post on the floor kind... I want the floor real estate back.

As of last weekend Costco in Kanata had at least a dozen of those wall racks for $98 each. They also have feet for putting it on the ground and I think they have a cover as well.

I think CTire started storage service for $50.... but you'd have to check on that.
