Course contre la montre: the 2008 Calabogie Time Trials.

Postby craig » Tue Oct 23, 2007 5:28 am

We're going to have an event, jointly with CADL. CADL has submitted a letter of intention to the FSAQ to bid to make the event the 2008 Canadian National SoloSprint Championships.

Thus, we hope to either have the Nationals or a regional event in 2008.

News will be posted here, so scroll to the bottom for the latest!

Not yet confirmed, but I'd keep Labour Day weekend open (end of August in 2008).

I'm meeting CADL this Saturday morning (Nov 3). If anybody wants to join me, please PM. Thanks.

Thanks Carl. I hope to see you and the folks from TLC and Trac Racing Depot out there to help make it a big-ass event! ... but ... there's no place for a bonfire at Calabogie unless I negotiate one with track management. Please.

... and title ... logo ... graphics ... all undecided at this time, but the working title is close - just have to check the grammar.

Update:
The meeting with CADL went very well. MCO and CADL are equal co-organizers of the event.

The Ontario SoloSprint Organizers will be meeting this Thursday. After I present to them, the season dates will be released (watch this forum), and then the Nationals bid will be submitted to ASN.

Last week, the event became the ASN Canada FIA National SoloSprint Championships. :chug:

 Trac Racing Depot and Talon Tire have stepped up and are partnering with CADL and MCO on this event. :chug:

We have over $10 000 in prizes, and most of that is going to given away in random door prizes. We have tires. We have schools. Besides events, from Trac, we have a top-of-the-line super-light HJC Si-12 helmet, Oakley FIA-approved racing boots, Nomex driving gloves, plus more - as door prizes for competitors and workers!

We have almost 60 entries, we need close to 80, and we want 90. Special pricing returns for a limited time - $575 for all three days, a banquet, some good BBQ, and the Solo2 rush combined with driving Calabogie.

I'm also looking for volunteers. Worker assignments are of varying length. The event needs the most bodies early Saturday morning, and then at lunchtimes. A few have stepped up already; some I've asked; more, I'll need. Worker perks include food (this is me you're talking about), lots of water (ditto), and track time as driver or passenger, with instruction available. If you aren't entering, :drivin: then please consider helping out either before or during the event.

Bit of a teaser:

Confirmed prizes for NATIONAL (no tire rule, no aero PiPs) competition:
1st overall - four Toyo R888 tires from Talon Tire
2nd overall - HJC Si-12 helmet from Trac Racing Depot (super-light top-of-the-line helmet)
3rd overall - Oakley Race boots from Trac Racing Depot (really cool)
Class champions - Nomex gloves from Trac Racing Depot

Note that the currently-reigning National Champion has said that he will not be defending the title.

We will also have, as door prizes, confirmed:
an additional HJC Si-12 helmet from Trac Racing Depot
an additional pair of Oakley Race boots from Trac Racing Depot
an additional two pairs of Nomex gloves from Trac Racing Depot
an enrollment in the Trac Academy
an enrollment in a Trac lapping day
ten Trac Racing Depot multi-discount coupons
over $1000 in Talon Tire coupons
an enrollment in MCO's Race School

I should be able to put up the full list later next week. I'm working on more t... ah, just wait for it.

Non-competing volunteers will also have a chance at the door prizes (hint hint). Door prizes will be awarded over all three days.

Also - we will NOT be returning to the Highlands Golf Course for the banquet because they are booked for a wedding. The Saturday banquet will be at Murphy's Landing Pub (beside the Calabogie Motor Inn). Good food, and plenty of it.

If you haven't yet registered, then you can register with Ana NOW (soloontario@cogeco.ca) and get the open house price of $575 for the three days until the end of the month (we had to extend the deal because we're a Nationals now). The amazing Ana will be refunding those of you who paid more.

Please thank and support Trac Racing Depot, Talon Tire, and all of the provincial sponsors.

News flash: We now have an additional set of Toyo R-compound tires from Talon Tire. These will be our Saturday night banquet door prize! Everyone (except me) has a chance to win! (must be present :D )

People from clubs in Ontario should register with Ana as usual.

People not in clubs or without a license, please send me a PM or an e-mail, thanks. I am putting together a special package with all the right forms.

Web site should be up next week.

The website is now up:

Sign up before August to get the big savings. Prices go up significantly after that, and even more if you pay at the event. This event is open to anyone.

Final counts with the mail checked:

63 for Friday (12 non-competitors)
94 for Saturday, 58 from Ontario, 7 from MCO.
92 for Sunday, 58 from Ontario, 7 from MCO.

I will be posting a list of people who are missing key information and who I don't have e-mail addresses shortly. In the meantime, please everyone ensure your emergency contact information is handy.

Help wanted!

94 is a lot.

http://www.cadl.qc.ca/csc/CTT08SuppsV2ForPosting.doc
For the supps, I tried to make them less-boring.

Section 1 One page has all the stuff that you really do have to know.
Section 2 is all the stuff we got from Trac Racing Depot and Talon Tire for you, plus info if you're staying at the track, etc.
Section 3 is Calabogie's noise regs.
Section 4 is stuff that you really should read.
Section 5 is the fine print.

http://www.solosprint.ca
An excessively-detailed organizer's schedule is posted there.
Please ignore the cars per cluster numbers in the schedule. They only represent the scenario that was simulated last, not what we will actually do.

So the deal with number of runs/session on Saturday is: If, at 12:00 noon, the track is cold, i.e., the first run is done, then we will consult the stewards about changing the schedule to try for three runs total for Saturday.

If the track is still hot at 12:15pm, or the stewards decline, then we stick to the schedule, which is two runs total for Saturday. If you plan to offer us advice on how it really should be done, then please post in this thread or e-mail now rather than trying to see us at 12:14pm Saturday. The organizing committee is open.

On Sunday, we will reduce, but not eliminate, the warm-up time if necessary to try to fit in three runs.

If there is a delay with the results on Sunday, we may have to shift the Sunday awards ceremony to the golf club (which is nice, same place as last year, same 1/4 BBQ chicken). We prefer to do the awards at the track, but keep in mind that everyone must be out of the track by 7:00pm.

http://www.cadl.qc.ca/csc/registrations.html
The posted registration probably has your Ontario class, not your national class. Please advise wrckid01@hotmail.com and baldheadracing@seko.ca of your National class ASAP, please.

People who are coming Friday-only from MCO, please provide car info if it doesn't show on the registration list.

Also, sending baldheadracing@seko.ca updated emergency contact name and phone number information will save time in registration (hint, hint).

Any questions, please post at http://www.casc.on.ca/forums/showthread ... post131619 or contact myself or the other two members of the organizing committee, Nancy and Guillaume.

See you at Calabogie!

Craig,

does rule 1.1 CLOTHING While in the hot pits (a chainlink fence separates the paddock from the hot pits) or in a vehicle on the track, all competitors and passengers shall wear long sleeved shirts, long pants, fully-enclosed shoes and socks (no sandals, crocs, etc.). It is recommended that these be made from natural fabrics (ie. wool, linen, silk and cotton) that are more resistant to flame than a blend or synthetic.

Apply to the lapping day as well?

Thanks :)

Calabogie Solosprint

Postby ottawagon » Thu Aug 28, 2008 2:12 pm

Sorry if I missed this before - maybe it was said somewhere...

What meals are being provided? It looks like sunday dinner is provided as part of the awards. Is Saturday BBQ happneing as per usual solosprint weekends?

What about lunches - is there a BBQ again this year? I remember there being one last year... If so, are competitor meals included, or is it a cash bbq?

Thanks - just want to know how much food to make/bring for the weekend!
